NID - National Institute of Design



National Institute of Design is Internationally acclaimed institution for Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated (Experiential) Design. It is an Institute of National Importance under the DIPP, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. National Institute of Design offers professional education programs at Bachelors and Masters level with five faculty streams and 20 diverse design domains.

  • The  Vijayawada campus was established on September 07, 2014 as an autonomous institute under the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.  NID Vijayawada currently offers full-time four year Graduate Diploma Programme in Design with specialisation streams of + Industrial Design + Communication Design and + Textile & Apparel Design with a multi-disciplinary approach to design education. The Institute’s full-fledged campus with state-of-the-art facilities is coming up in the heart of ‘Amaravati’, the state capital of Andhra Pradesh. NID Vijayawada currently operates from transit campus located in Acharya Nagarjuna University, Nagarjuna Nagar .
  • The Kurukshetra campus is  an autonomous institute under DIPP, invites applications for the third batch of its 4 year Graduate Diploma Program in Design (GDPD) for the academic year 2018-19 at the transit campus at Government Polytechnic, Umri, Kurukshetra, Haryana.

COURSE DURATION: 4 Years   ( Successful candidates admitted will be required to attend a mandatory foundation programme of one-year duration. Allotment of a discipline of choice is based on a candidate’s merit and choice only after successful completion of the foundation programme. )

Eligibility Criteria for B.Des. & GDPD

All applicants applying for the B.Des. and GDPD programmes must fulfill both the following criteria; of age and education qualification:

Age Limit:

  • For Indian Nationals in General Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years as on 30 June 2018. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST): Upper age limit for candidates is 23 years as on 30 June 2018. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1995 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 25 years as on 30 June 2018. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1993 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years as on 30 June 2018. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.

Educational Qualification:

Applications for academic year 2018–19 are open to applicants who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2017–18 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent

Note:

  • In addition to the number of seats mentioned above, 2 seats per specialisation are allotted for overseas (supernumerary) candidates.
  • Prescribed percentage of seats are reserved for candidates (Indian nationals) belonging to various reserved categories as per the Government of India guidelines.
  • Aspiring candidates can apply to a maximum of ONLY TWO disciplines for the Master of Design programme.
  • The seat allotment will be purely based on the preference submitted by candidate at the time of viewing their final result. Under no circumstances will the candidate be allowed to change these preferences later.
  • Applications are received to a specific discipline only and are not transferable at any stage of the admissions process.

Eligibility Criteria for M.Des

All applicants applying for the M.Des. programme (any discipline) must fulfill both the following criteria; of age and education qualification.

Age Limit:

  • For Indian Nationals in General Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years as on 30 June 2018. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1988 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC & ST): Upper age limit for candidates is 33 years as on 30 June 2018. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1985 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 35 years as on 30 June 2018. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1983 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years as on 30 June 2018. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1988 are eligible to apply for admission.

Educational Qualification:  

In addition to the above, the candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admissions:

Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 10+2 system, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicant must (have passed/have appeared for/be appearing for) the Bachelor degree examinations before July 2018. 

OR

Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, under the 10+2 system. Condition: Applicants must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations before July 2017. 

OR

Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 10+2 system, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicants must (have passed/have appeared for/be appearing for) the Diploma examinations before July 2018. 

 

How to Apply (B.Des/GDPD & M.Des)


In B.Des/GDPD the Design Aptitude Tests – DAT Prelims and DAT Mains are common to applicants to all three institutes, NID Ahmedabad, NID Vijayawada and NID Kurukshetra.
